In my newsletter, Living Life As An Adventurer, I gave this tip, “My invitation to you is to make a list of life adventures you want to have in your lifetime.” Please free to share what this tip awakens in you!

Hi Joyce...To kill a dragon. Become a pirate. Do you love my 6th grade son or what? But his adventure dreams bring a question to my mind...is it unadventurous to desire a quiet life?

I want to think about your challenges more tomorrow maybe the answer will come to me as I write and mull and muse. Thanks so much for sharing your gifts with me :)

Love, Cindy

Over a family dinner the other evening, my son asked me how long I had been journaling.

"Oh, I'm so glad you asked. This year celebrates 25 years." My grandson, age 12, looked at me with great big eyes, "You've been journaling for 25 years?!@#$%^&" At that moment, I launched into my very favorite journaling story about the Protagonist in the novel 1984. He goes into a bookstore and buys a book, carefully tucking it under his jacket so the surveillance camera cannot catch him in the act. And what was the book? A JOURNAL, an empty book, because the biggest threat to Big Brother is that we might start thinking for ourselves. And so I started in 1984!!!

...been fasting all day, put on my dancing skirt, loud praise music

wait, didn't I just say this morning that I didn't like any ways of reaching Creator except Yeshua, Jesus? Well, what about praying, dancing, singing?
What about fasting and serving?
If those things are communing with God for me, can't drumming or sweating or twirling be commmuning with Him too. Jesus is the bridge but we can dance across it!

but all the dancing put adventure dreams in my mind

Dance ..I want to expand my dance somehow. I don't know how. Can I learn or lead or start or join a dance group?

Music ... I want to really learn every scale.. I want to expand my flute palying so I can play what I hear in my heart.

Art...I've discovered the healing of my prayer paintings and drawings (I paint the sunset or flowers or something while I pray for someone and then give it to them. ) How can I find more time for this? Can I include others?

Travel... I want to start hiking with a pack. Yellowstone backcountry this summer.
Service.. I love visiting my shut-ins. How can make my visits more of a blessing?

Homeless shelter is amazing. Is there a way to keep in contact with the friends I make?

Teens...so many of them, how can have a personal relationship with this many? Should I try for just a few? just 12?:)

Home ...can I learn to clean? okay I'd better go dance some more this is no longer 'adventure dreams!'

Heart...I want a prayer group, people who want to pray once a week for teens. I guess I already have that after Buck Buffet when we feed close to 100 kids...but I feel like I'm making everyone do it.

Education...Do I want to get a masters? seminary? teaching? creation science?

Thanks so much for posing this challenge, Joyce.

Maybe it's a quiet life compared to some but it's a constant adventure for me:)! I 'found out' way more than I imagined!

Joyce does it matter where I write?

Joyce Chapman said...

When I just read this question I was reminded of a time when I was
house-sitting for a friend and my daughter-in-law came over to visit me. She saw that I'd been writing at the beautiful little "nook" that was set in the corner of the sunny kitchen and said."What a perfect place for journaling,I don't have a spot like this set up in my home. In fact I don't think I even have the right furniture!" We laughed at her statement and realization, and talked about the importance of creating and having an inviting and comfortable place to write, think, dream, and create!!! Since that day we have often remembered that conversation and have enjoyed laughing and changing that notion...I don't have the right furniture; to
other "life
experiences"....like...I don't have the right dress....I'd
better get one...I don't have a pen I love----I'm going to buy one today!!

I'm sure you get the idea.

My answer to the question is............Write where you are most free to write freely from your mind, body and soul! And.......if you find you need
and want to create a special place, with the "right furniture"...have fun
and write and tell me your story ...or post your thoughts and feelings on this journaling blog for others to share, too!

As I watched and listened the Academy Awards Show I was so excited to hear all the words I love to hear being said.

Words like:Thank You-Yes!-Dream Big-I chose Love-You can build a dream out of anything---and so many more!

What words do you like to hear and write in your journal? Please write and share with me.

Dear Joyce, You inspired me to Listen and Notice the words I like to hear while I watched the Academy Awards this year.

I had a notepad and jotted them down along with my favorite parts, people, and some special quotes during the show.

It really helped me focus in on the genuine beauty, the inspiration, the talent, the passion, the hard work, and all the Magic of the movie industry. I love the movies!

The Oscars remind us... to believe in ourselves and Never give up!
Did I like the show...? I felt like this year's was the best ever!

I also loved that the smaller, less expensive (to produce) films were so greatly received and rewarded. I hope that's inspiring to the filmmakers.(and if you haven't seen The Visitor... rent it!) Debi

In my ordinary life....I celebrate being alone most of the day. Also...to Not be alone, whenever I choose.

I suppose it may not always be this way,So I will Notice it, Enjoy it and Celebrate my freedom!

Since I received the noticing tip this week (Notice what I celebrate.) I have discovered I rarely think of celebrating. So I am writing to tell you I am going to notice and write again soon.

I hope you'll listen to the interview show today, "Be Your Own Coach" (Or you can listen anytime at www.conversationslive.net)

Joyce, I just listened to the show and can you give me my first journaling assignment to be on my way of Being My Own Coach.

Joyce Chapman said...

One of the best journaling assignment to tap into where to start is to review your life so far. (The way I like to introduce this is to ask my client "Tell me about your life so far."

So after you do this, write and ask me for a next step idea!

Hello again --I have written about my life so far..and I think I'm now ready to be my own coach. Please give me some more writing tips.

Claire said...

I just now read your twitter entry and as you suggested I made a list of what surprises me. And guess what, the first thing I wrote was..that I forget to journal when I'm joyful. This is going to change!

I just got the weekly tip and I can NOT even begin to tell you how perfect this idea is for me. Thanks!

Guess what, I paid attention to your newsletter idea and I astounded my self three times already. Small steps and I did it!

i think adventure has many faces... there is that adventure of travelling, discovering new places, new ways of living and being , touching base with new people , in far off countries or in challenging situations ... but there is also the simple adventure of discovering and exploring our own worlds /communities, living and sharing our lives the best way we can, with people we love and care for, facing courageously all of lifes challenges and difficulties

so i guess at 53 going on 54 i must have had lots of adventures without realizing it ...

thank you for bringing me to that point of realization ...

as to futire adventures ..the options seem to be endless and yet at the same time confusing ... how does one decide which option is the best track to follow ... personally i have always asked for "signs" from the higher being but i wonder are there other ways to choose ...

peace and love to all
megan

As you can likely guess I take this type of question to my journal...all the time! So along with trusting and having faith I ask myself questions ---like what adventures do I want to have now and then reread and decide which ones I want to commit to "doing" and having! Then usually write some more:)!

Joyce Chapman said...

I am often asked about my weekly noticing tips and why I am so passionate about this habit. When I designed my Live Your Dream workshops I came up with the concept of the power of paying attention to my life then journaling. Out of this understanding, came the assignments...to Notice what you notice. (If you'd like to learn more check out the section in Chapter one "Zero in"...pages 33-36. )

Joyce Chapman said...

Because of a Twitter entry I'm going to start the chapter in my life story today ---about my passion for garage sales and thrift store shopping. For a very long time I have said...someday I'm going to write about my adventures while shopping, buying and listening to the fascinating conversations while shopping :) So, today is the day to begin!

I used to journal and then when I remarried, my new husband wanted to read my journal. I realized that some things are private even though I share everything with him. Sometimes you just need to vent and say things that are stuck in your head. Sometimes you don't know what is really wrong until you write and write and write. And then you read the journal and say, well, that isn't entirely true or that really isn't at the crux of this emotion. But writing it all down helps get to the crux of it. So, I may start again. I appreciate your encouragement.

Joyce Chapman said...

I definitely agree with your statement "But writing it all down helps get to the crux of it."

I hope you will try it again!

I just made a list of my beliefs, as you suggested in this week's Notice Tip. Wow I need to do this more often. I am not living true to my beliefs! Thanks

I just had a Noticing Moment that I want to share... I pulled out a book (Freeing the Creative Spirit) in my newly renamed, Art Room ;) As I was reading about primary and secondary colors, I thought of a rainbow. Suddenly, I noticed an actual rainbow gliding down the page! I wondered where it was coming from and saw the (almost blinding) bright light shining through my glass horse bookend behind me. I thought... I "should" write about this! And as I'm writing, the sun moved and the rainbow disappeared. What a beautiful brief moment in time--I'm glad to have Noticed.

PS... Thanks to your suggestion, I named my month Creativity Month! I know that covers a lot... but it's already making me notice how creative I can be :)

Joyce Chapman said...

Hi Debi! Wow, I love that story of magical moments of rainbows. And I know you are SO creative and I'm happy to know you've claimed "it"!
